December 31, 2012

As we close off another year, it’s time to reflect all of things that have taken place over the last 365 days.  There are the good, the bad and the ugly, but that is what makes life so challenging.  If we didn’t have the bad and ugly life would be awfully boring, less stressful, but boring.  As the saying goes, “What doesn’t kill us makes us stronger”.  Though I would like less of the bad and ugly and more of the good, and I am sure everyone agrees.  Take the time to cherish your loved ones and give them an extra hug, pick up the phone or send off an email to say hi (kids you can send a text).  Sometimes we just never know when our dance cards are full.

I would like to say how impressed I am with all of the beautiful Christmas displays in our village and surrounding areas this year.  It sure made it feel more like Christmas than the weather.  On my tour around our area there were a few that caught my eye that I’d like to mention… The Dougherty’s, those on Binnie Drive who festively lit up their street and there were also several houses in Midhurst on the cul-de-sac on Willow Landing.  I am sure there are many more that deserve mentioning so kudos to you as well.

To all of those travelling throughout this season, I hope that you travel safely and arrive to all destinations with all suitcases in hand and that your luggage doesn’t make a side trip to somewhere you aren’t going to be.  Those who travel by snowmobile for a winter tour, please drive within the speed limits and watch out for those (human and canine) who may be out skiing, snow shoeing or just enjoying nature on the trails.  Whether you are driving a car, truck or snowmobile, drive safe and drive sober!

I do wish to mention the loss of another long time Minesing resident.  Winston Downey in his 80th year, passed away peacefully on December 23, 2012 at Barrie Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre.  Dear brother of Dorothy Fiegehen. Predeceased by sisters, Marion Camack, Jean Robertson and Helen Lord and Brothers, John (Jack) and Wendell. Winston will be missed by his sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews, cousins and many friends. Our condolences go out to the Downey family.

From my family to yours, I wish you health, happiness and prosperity for 2013.  Keep buying those lottery tickets!

Until next time….is it time for the kids to go back to school yet?
